Lindberg Ford F-150 OFF Road 4x4 Pick Up Truck Model
This was the very first model that I built from the ground up they say. I ended up rushing the build on the first try, which lead me to so much heart ache and misery, that I thought my wife was going to sell what I had bough in paints so that she would not hear my swear all the time.
None the less, I decided to rebuild this model keep in mind that time was on my side and I didn't rush things. Overall this model is decent kit to start off with as a newbie in the field of modeling. (On a side note to those who are reading this, modeling building comes in many different levels. I will explain this later in a different post).
As you can see I did not really follow the model that is picture on the box of this model. That's something about model building you don't need to really follow. Yes, of course it's nice to end up with the model on the box, but there is something about making a custom model out of kit that you can't really compare to the original model.
One thing i do recommend when you do build this kit is to invest in the follow tools: Cement glue for plastic models (one for the parts and one for the windows and clear parts., hobby spray paint, and gloves. This model was painted with a brush throughout. The bad thing about this is that if you look at it up close you will see brush marks, which does throw off the look a bit, but keep in mind its my first go at this.
When it came to building the undercarriage, man did I have a hard time. One thing yo keep in mind when building a truck model is to let the cement dry for at least 2-3 hours before you start working around the cemented part or area. Better yet putting pressure on the area. The hardest thing when it came to cementing the undercarriage were the axles and the tires. For all of these areas I used a mixture of cement and super glue. I don't recommend doing this because if your not careful there a chance you will strip the pain away from the areas with the cement and glue. So when it comes to securing parts, always try using cement first, but in some cases where you think that the cement will not hold the parts in place, use super glue in very small amounts and use gloves or tweezers to help you place the items.
The second thing i want to highlight about this model was that when it came to placing the windows and clear parts I was totally in left field. I thought that regular cement would do the trick and I would have a great looking model. WRONG!!!! In using regular cement I ended up leaving smudge marks on the windows and overall a dirty looking windshield and windows. I have not learned through many other models is that these parts require a different type glue dries clear. Also one tip that I can also give about doing windows is to handle your clear parts as little as possible. As this will help prevent finger prints and dust marks appearing on these parts. In addition to handling clear parts, I would also recommend that you wash your hands before working these parts as well as wear some type of glove when place these items as to help prevent paint and glue marks.
Well there you go, my very first model I have ever built. I will admit looking at this model now compared to the ones that I have done recently, I can say that I'm learning and have a lot to learn. Model building is not necessary about speed but its about taking pride in building something that has happened in our past or what is going on in our lives. Why should we rush something that we want to look back on with enjoyment and pride? We should take our time in build these kits, making sure the details are right and perfect. So that latter down the road we can share our store about the model to others who make ask about.
Well folks that's it for this guy, my next post I will be talking about the second model that I built and how I will be taking the lessons from this model and not applying them to future models.
Until next time "Stay Focused and Keep On Building The World Of Your Dreams One Model At A Time!!"
